Spark Academy Curriculum

Spark Academy’s curriculum incorporates hands-on and theoretical learning to help students attain a better and more fulfilling way of life. Our focus is advanced technology. Spark Academy students graduate from high school with knowledge and skills in high demand in the world of advanced manufacturing and a well-rounded education including mathematics, science, literature, history, art, music, and government.

SPARK ACADEMY YEAR BY YEAR

Students take four courses:

Math, Science, Technology Studies, and Humanities.

Year One

(Freshman Year)

TECHNOLOGY STUDIES

Technology classes are Introduction to Robotics and Computer Aided Design (CAD) with SOLIDWORKS.

HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Students begin earning high school credits toward state graduation requirements in health education and physical education.

SCIENCE

Students take Physical Science in their first semester and Biology in their second semester.

MATH

Most Spark students will progress through Algebra I to Geometry in their first year. Students who progress more quickly and complete Algebra II with Trigonometry, may enroll in MCC courses in their second year, earning college credit.

HUMANITIES

Humanities studies includes a journey through human history, connecting English, communications, history, arts, and global studies. The principles of sound research, organizational skills, writing, and presentation are emphasized.

Year Two

(Sophomore Year)

HUMANITIES

Your journey through human history continues through the Humanities program with increasingly complex topics and higher benchmarks in research, writing, and presentation.

HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Students will complete state graduation requirements for health education and physical education.

MATH

During their second year, Spark students will continue with Spark math classes or begin taking MCC mathematics classes.

TECHNOLOGY STUDIES

Technology courses are Manufacturing Processes I and Electrical Fundamentals.

SCIENCE

Students take Chemistry and can begin exploring options for Running Start or Early College science classes, depending on their anticipated track.

Year Three

(Junior Year)

TECHNOLOGY STUDIES

Students who choose to remain on the AMT track will take Blueprint Reading, Programmable Logic Control, Manufacturing Systems, and Basic Machining.

MATH

During their third year, Spark students will continue with Spark math classes or begin taking MCC mathematics classes.

HUMANITIES

Students are challenged with increasingly complex topics and higher benchmarks in research, writing, and presentation. A greater focus on higher levels of analysis and evaluation help students develop critical thinking and communication skills.

SPECIALIZED STUDY

As students begin exploring their course of specialized study and certification, a variety of MCC courses are available to them.

Year Four

(Senior Year)

*MCC courses taken as part of the New Hampshire high school requirements for graduation are free of charge. 

 

**MCC classes taken in addition to those required as part of the New Hampshire high school requirements for graduation will entail the normal tuition and fees MCC charges its students. These are the courses students will be taking toward their associate’s degree.

HUMANITIES

The student journey through human history continues in the Humanities program, with increasingly complex topics and higher benchmarks in research, writing, and presentation. A continued emphasis on higher levels of analysis and evaluation help students further refine their critical thinking and communication skills.

PREPARATION FOR CERTIFICATION AND BEYOND

Students are fully immersed in MCC curriculum, internships, and/or Extended Learning Opportunities depending on which track they are on and what their post-Spark goals are.
